What is flat foot or Vertical Talus and it’s Treatment?

Absence of Medial arch or if your baby’s foot is touching the ground is known as flat foot.
There are different reasons for flat foot…
1. Hyperlaxity of joints
2. Chubby soles of infants and toddlers
3. Pathological like Vertical Talus/ oblique Talus

Vertical Talus is not very common but one of the cause of Pathological Flat foot. In this Talus (Ankle Bone ) is facing downwards and results in Flat foot. In this, the foot appears convex Boat shaped.
Treatment should be started as early as possible from day one of life which includes serial plaster cast (Reverse Ponseti cast) followed by surgery (Dobbs Procedure), if required. Results are very satisfying and good. Foot appears normal and is functionally good.
Regular stretching exercises and braces are required for sometime.
